Heeramandi’s Manisha Koirala Recounts 12-Hour Immersion In Water

Manisha Koirala: In the world of cinema, it’s often the moments of struggle behind the scenes that elevate an actor’s performance to extraordinary heights. Manisha Koirala’s portrayal of courtesan Mallikajaan in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s epic show, Heeramandi, stands as a testament to this. Despite the film’s mixed reviews and criticism regarding factual inaccuracies, Koirala’s performance has garnered widespread praise.

Recently, in an Instagram post, the seasoned actor opened up about the challenges she faced while shooting one of the most demanding sequences in the series – the fountain scene.

Describing it as the ‘most challenging’ moment of her career, Koirala revealed that the scene took a staggering 12 hours to film, leaving her physically exhausted.

In her latest post, Manisha Koirala shared scenes from Heeramandi along with her reflections. She wrote, “The fountain sequence proved the most physically challenging. It required me to be immersed in a water fountain for over 12 hours. That tested my resilience! Even though Sanjay had thoughtfully ensured that the water was warm and clean, over the hours, the water turned muddy, (because my team members, the Cinematographer, and the art director’s team were getting into the water to work around the scene.) Every single pore in my body was soaked in that muddy water. Even though I was beyond exhaustion by the end of the shoot, I felt a deep happiness within my heart. My body had taken the stress and remained resilient. I knew I had passed a critical physical test.”

“To you, who think your time has come and gone, whether it’s due to age, illness or any setback, never give up! You never know what could be waiting for you around the bend!” she shared, inspiring her followers with her resilience and determination.

A Glimpse into Heeramandi

Heeramandi transports viewers to the red-light district of Heera Mandi in Lahore, set against the backdrop of pre-partition India. The series delves into the lives of courtesans and Nawabs during the tumultuous era of the Indian independence movement under British rule.

With a star-studded cast including Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, and more, the show explores the intertwining fates of its characters amidst the political upheaval of the 1920s-40s.
